Sonographer

The purpose of the position is to aid the Radiologist in performing specific sonographic examinations and also perform certain routine sonographic examinations, as well assist fellow technologists, as described in the Radiology Department's Policies and Procedures.

Work is performed in hospital and clinic environments. There is common exposure to infectious communicable disease, potentially hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials. Incumbent must be aware of all risks involved and be willing to take precautions as required and requested. Special attire may be required as protection against infection and radiation.

Work requires long periods of standing and walking. Working with patients requires recurring bending, stooping, stretching and positioning patients. Ability to lift 50 pounds is required to perform positional duties. Incumbent will also have to cope with frequent changes in a stressful environment.

Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:

  • Responsible for staying up to date in policy and protocol amendments, positioning techniques and quality control of ultrasound equipment.
  • Responsible for the proper identification of patients, including correct hospital number and proper identification of all ultrasound images.
  • Review each ultrasound request to determine necessary images needed for the completion of the exam.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of work area and equipment assigned.
  • Performs required duties in technologist work area, file room and office as needed.
  • Responsible for reviewing current technical literature and evaluating new procedures and techniques for the purpose of recommending them to the Director of Radiology.
  • Provide technical support to staff members and physicians and assists with troubleshooting and basic inquiries involved in the daily operation of computers and ultrasound equipment.
  • Responsible for maintaining professional licensures, certifications/registrations and required continuing education as mandated by ARRT, ARDMS and/or RVT credentialing requirements.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Performs other duties as required.
