Respiratory Therapist

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional license and with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include evaluating patient conditions and recommending treatment plans, explaining procedures and equipment to patients, and providing education upon discharge.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers.
  • Perform chest physiotherapy for secretion clearance and various suctioning methods.
  • Monitor patient oximetry and capnography as per policy.
  • Conduct routine reviews of chest x-rays and perform pulmonary function studies.
  • Assist with procedures related to respiratory care, such as Bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.
  • Care for tracheostomy patients and perform arterial punctures as needed.
  • Conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
  • Set up and maintain mechanical ventilation equipment; perform checks and assessments of respiratory equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with attending physicians regarding therapy efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate respiratory therapy charging and documentation.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
  • Must have current Respiratory Therapy license in hand.
  • Experience in ventilator weaning is required.
  • Ability to perform respiratory care procedures independently and competently.
Schedule

This position involves a day shift of 3x12.0 hours, with rotations for 2 day shifts and 1 night shift, including rotating weekends. The assignment is set to start ASAP and lasts for 8 weeks.
