Job Summary
Assists providers with patient examinations, diagnostic procedures, treatments, and care coordination to facilitate effective delivery of patient care and satisfaction. Responsible for direct provision of ancillary services or advanced, specialized knowledge integral to their job function.
Job Responsibilities- Greet patients and express sensitivity to their needs and condition.
- Assess and document general condition of the patient, including recording chief complaint, vital signs, weight, medications, social history, and verifying symptoms and interventions in the medical record.
- Record services and diagnoses for accurate completion of encounter forms, requisitions, consent forms, and advance beneficiary notices.
- Assist providers with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments according to established protocols.
- Independently perform ancillary services including venipuncture, x-rays, etc., per protocols.
- Maintain medical records including preparation of charts, filing of correspondence, and test results.
- Coordinate care through messaging patient telephone calls, scheduling appointments, communicating prescription refills, etc., according to established protocols.
- Successfully use EMR and other computer applications to accomplish tasks according to policies and procedures.
- Track ordered or pending tests, procedures, and referrals according to protocol.
- Administer medication orally and via intra-muscular injection as directed by physician order.
- Determine eligibility and obtain authorization for services.
- Schedule tests and appointments for referred services.
- Track referrals made for services.
- Promote patient wellness by providing patient education as directed by the provider.
- Utilize advanced clinical knowledge or experience to resolve patient questions and meet patient needs.
- Participate in quality initiatives and safety functions.
- Assist in identifying and ordering needed supplies.
- Remain informed and compliant with current health system policies and procedures.
- Maintain exemplary patient satisfaction and participate as an engaged team member.
- Exercise independent judgment in making minor decisions where alternatives are limited, and standard policies/protocols have been established.
- Work directly with patients and/or customers.
- Collaborate with internal/external customers and other healthcare professionals and staff.
- Engage frequently with individuals at director level or above.
- New Graduate Medical Assistants or one (1) year of related experience within the last 5 years may substitute for an approved Medical Assistant educational program completion.
- Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communications.
- Demonstrated patient care skills.
- Demonstrated PC skills.
- Effective organization of a multi-task role.
- Understanding of healthcare delivery processes in the medical office.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Educational Program or one (1) year of related experience within the last 5 years.
- BLS
- Cannot have a medical marijuana card.
- Computer experience.
- Must have experience giving injections.
- Open to a flexible schedule.
- Strong customer service skills.
