Municipal Judge

Overview

The City of Catoosa is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Municipal Judge. This is a professional judicial position responsible for presiding over the City’s Municipal Court and administering justice in accordance with the laws of the State of Oklahoma and the ordinances of the City of Catoosa.

This position is appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council in accordance with state law. Compensation and term of service will be set by the City Council.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Preside over municipal court proceedings and hearings
• Interpret and apply applicable state laws and city ordinances and codes
• Rule on motions, objections, and procedural matters
• Impose fines, penalties, and sentences as authorized by law
• Maintain courtroom decorum and ensure due process
• Work cooperatively with court staff, prosecutors, defense counsel, and law enforcement
• Ensure accurate and timely court records and rulings
• Perform other judicial duties as required by law or ordinance

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be a licensed attorney in good standing with the Oklahoma Bar Association
• Must meet all qualifications required by Oklahoma law to serve as a Municipal Judge
• Knowledge of municipal court procedures, criminal law, and rules of evidence
• Demonstrated ability to act impartially and ethically
• Strong communication and decision-making skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience as a municipal judge, associate judge, or practicing attorney in municipal or criminal law
• Familiarity with Oklahoma municipal court operations
