The Role

The AVP, Safety and Insurance Loss provides strategic direction and leadership for the department, using data-driven insights, behavioral safety strategies, and a strong customer focus to drive measurable results. This role oversees all safety and loss prevention programs, field operations, analytics, and initiatives that reduce workplace risk, enhance service delivery, and strengthen the company’s competitive advantage in loss containment. The AVP partners with Underwriting, Claims, and Marketing to align safety services with growth and retention goals while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Your

day-to-day will include:
  • Strategic Leadership & Vision: Lead the Safety and Loss Prevention team to achieve safety, risk reduction, and customer satisfaction goals by scaling standard processes, leveraging technology, and using analytics to anticipate risks and guide key initiatives.
  • Operational Excellence: Direct the design, delivery, and evaluation of safety programs, tools, and dashboards that support underwriting profitability, loss containment, and consistent, responsive service for policyholders and agents.
  • Collaboration & Business Partnership: Partner with Underwriting, Claims, and Marketing to strengthen risk selection, retention, and client satisfaction, representing Safety and Loss Prevention in company planning and cross-functional projects.
  • Leadership & Talent Development: Build a high-performance team through clear expectations, coaching, and accountability, developing emerging leaders and subject matter experts to support succession and scale.
  • Performance Measurement & Analytics: Set and track metrics and KPIs for department performance, service quality, and safety impact, using analytics to drive continuous improvement and better customer outcomes.
  • Budgeting & Resource Allocation: Own department budgets, aligning people, tools, and programs to priority outcomes and maximizing return on investment.
Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a visionary, confident leader with a positive mindset—someone who thrives on independence, embraces metrics, and drives strategic outcomes through decisive action.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Engineering, Risk Management, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience in safety and insurance loss prevention, influencing client safety behaviors and outcomes
  • 7+ years of leadership experience, including managing managers and cross-functional teams
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, ARM, or CRIS preferred
  • Skilled in using data and tools like Excel and Power BI to drive measurable operational and cultural change
  • Valid driver’s license, personal vehicle, and ability to travel regularly to policyholder locations and company sites
