About Thompson Creek Mine

The Thompson Creek Mine is a primary, surface molybdenum mine and mill located approximately 48 kilometers southwest of the town of Challis in Idaho's Custer County.

In operations since 1983, the mineuses conventional open-pit mining methods with large electric-powered shovels that can each move up to 100,000 tons of waste rock and ore per day.

Thompson Creek Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About The Opportunity

We are looking for an Supervisor, Tailings t o join our Thompson Creek team.

The Tailings Supervisor is responsible for providing frontline leadership and supervision of daily tailings operations at the mine site. This position oversees the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, inspection, and maintenance of tailings deposition and water management systems and associated infrastructure.

Reporting to the Tailings Superintendent, the Tailings Supervisor works closely with Mill Operations, Mine Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, and Engineering teams to ensure the Tailings Storage Facility is operated in accordance with approved operating procedures, design requirements, regulatory obligations, and company standards.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide direct supervision and leadership to tailings operators and other assigned personnel.
  • Coordinate and oversee daily tailings deposition, water management, pumping, pipeline, and associated operational activities.
  • Ensure tailings operations are conducted safely and in accordance with approved operating procedures, plans, and company standards.
  • Oversee the development and execution of short- and long-term tailings operating plans in collaboration with site operations, engineering, and technical teams.
  • Conduct and oversee routine inspections of tailings pipelines, pumps, deposition areas, water management infrastructure, and other associated facilities.
  • Ensure operational monitoring, inspections, and surveillance activities are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Identify and elevate operational issues, equipment deficiencies, potential risks, or changing site conditions to the Tailings Superintendent and appropriate technical personnel.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance to plan and prioritize repairs and preventative maintenance for tailings equipment and infrastructure.
  • Monitor operational performance and make adjustments to support safe and efficient tailings deposition and water management.
  • Support the implementation of tailings operating plans developed by the Tailings Superintendent and technical teams.
  • Ensure employees understand and follow all applicable health and safety, environmental, operational, and emergency response procedures.
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings, safety discussions, and field-level risk assessments.
  • Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to tailings operations personnel.
  • Identify opportunities to improve safety, reliability, efficiency, and operational performance.
  • Work collaboratively with Mill Operations, Mine Operations, Maintenance, Environmental, and Engineering to address operational priorities and challenges.
  • Perform other duties and help as required.
About You

To qualify, the following skills and experiences are required :

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education or technical training in mining, engineering, environmental science, or a related discipline is considered an asset.
  • 5–7 years of experience in mining, tailings operations, processing, water management, or a related heavy industrial environment.
