BONDER REPAIR

Job Summary

Applies advanced technical skills and knowledge to fabricate, rework and repair metallic and nonmetallic bonded parts and assemblies for operational aircraft applications. Performs any of the detailed work operations required to be completed in this area of specialization.

• Performs bonding of metallic and nonmetallic materials to fabricate parts, components and assemblies for aircraft applications using products and processes that are varied and moderately complex to complex in scope.
• Reads and interprets blueprints, drawings, manuals, specifications, sketches, job orders, planning documents and engineering drawings. Determines equipment requirements and the method and sequences of operation to be followed in fabrication of parts using materials such as graphite, fiberglass, plastic, boron, flock, mat, epoxy resins, rubber and similar materials.
• Plans, lays out, fabricates and builds adhesive bonded assemblies of metallic and nonmetallic composite materials. Fabricates composite and metal parts into subassemblies for the purpose of prefitting in preparation for bonding/curing in presses, ovens, and autoclaves.
• Lays out, prefits, assembles and performs lay‑up on a variety of metal‑to‑metal and composite bonded assemblies. Fits core in panels where close tolerances are required for installation of details for completion of assembly. Performs vacuum bagging for Autoclave cures up to 100 psi.
• Lays out and marks dimensions and reference lines on material to develop and trace patterns of product or parts, or uses templates.
• Selects tooling and materials compatible with the processing techniques identified in the work instructions.
• Performs other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications and departments other than the primary assignment.

Education Requirements
Other. No formal education required. If applicable, a combination of experience and training may be substituted for the education requirement.

Experience Requirements
4 year(s) of metal bonding or composite fabrication/bonding in an aerospace manufacturing environment.

Skills and Competencies

• Reading and interpreting work instructions, properly documenting work performed on such documents as process planning, adhesive log sheets, Material Review Board documents, Engineering Work Orders, Change Notices, Engineering Process Specifications, technical manuals and similar documentation.
• Uses close‑tolerance measuring tools such as scales, micrometers, calipers, depth gauges and similar tools.
• Uses hand tools such as drill motors, die grinders, rivet guns, fastener installation tools and similar tools.
• Intermediate blueprint reading.

Must be able to work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week, if required. Additionally, those who work at NORDAM Repair Division must be able to ascend and descend stairs.

While performing the duties of this job, the Stakeholder is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment can vary from loud to a more moderate level.

• Works under general supervision, applying and adapting standard procedures and solutions to meet work requirements.
• Priorities are determined by management.
