Material Handler

This role supports a heavy industrial manufacturing operation by safely handling, moving, and preparing materials for production. You will primarily use overhead cranes, perform manual material handling, and assist with tasks such as drilling, cleaning, and measuring materials to precise specifications. The position requires flexibility to perform a variety of duties and contributes directly to efficient and safe production flow.

Responsibilities
  • Review work orders or follow verbal instructions to determine which materials or containers need to be moved or delivered.
  • Load and unload materials by hand onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves in a safe and organized manner.
  • Operate overhead cranes to move large industrial materials, ensuring proper rigging, balance, and safe transport.
  • Drill materials and clean poles as needed, adapting to a flexible range of tasks based on production requirements.
  • Measure materials accurately, including material going to the burn table, using a tape measure down to 1/16 of an inch.
  • Move product to and from chip bins and trash containers as needed to support housekeeping and production flow.
  • Assist with general labor and production tasks, including manual labor and unloading, as directed by supervision.
  • Support machine operation tasks as needed, particularly as experience grows and responsibilities expand.
  • Follow all safety guidelines and rules, consistently employing safe working habits in all material handling activities.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area, helping to ensure a safe and efficient manufacturing environment.
Essential Skills
  • Proven overhead crane experience in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated heavy industrial material handling experience with large materials and loads.
  • Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately, including measurements down to 1/16 of an inch.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Experience with general labor, production support, and manual material handling tasks.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work orders accurately.
  • Strong commitment to following safety guidelines and employing safe working habits at all times.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Willingness and physical ability to perform manual labor in a heavy industrial setting.

  • Machine operation experience preferred, particularly for future opportunities once brought on directly.
  • Experience working with overhead cranes more frequently than forklifts in an industrial environment.
  • Flexibility to handle a wide variety of job duties and shift between tasks as production needs change.
  • Experience in unloading materials and organizing them in a manufacturing or production setting.
  • Comfort working in a non-climate-controlled facility with industrial equipment and processes.

This position is based in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility with heavy industrial equipment and processes.
