Smithfield Foods, Inc. is seeking a General Production team member to help deliver safe, high-quality food. The role focuses on operating and maintaining production equipment, ensuring product quality and safety standards are met.

General Production employees will work with hand tools, knives, machinery and other equipment to process meat products for the consumer. These positions can be physically demanding and require good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail. Production team members must work their scheduled shift and may be required to work overtime depending on production demands.
- Keep the Robot running effectively, keeping lines from backing up
- Identify product discrepancy on product case labels, code dates, lot numbers, and product codes
- Assist in palletizing when Robots go down or machine failures
- Change out stretch wrap on the Orion Wrapper machine as needed
- Ensure equipment setup is appropriate for the production run: verify lane adjustments for box dimension, enter the correct unit load for palletizing, verify Robot speeds and sensors, and enter correct barcode into the cross over to call for products to correct Robot lanes
- Ensure cases going into robots are in good condition (pull off if crushed or ripped for manual palletizing)
- Rotate with the other robot operator as needed
- Qualified and trained to perform Lock Out Tag Out
- Understand robot settings
- Keep conveyor full of boxes
- Troubleshoot machinery
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions
Perform tasks requiring continuous/repetitive movement, including grasping, pinching hands, flexing, extending arms; stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to 12-hour shift; work around animal blood and/or carcass parts; work with a knife (if trained); work in cold areas (approximately 20-40
F) and/or warm areas (over 100
F); work in a wet and humid environment; wear hard hat, hearing/eye protection, steel-toed safety shoes; use personal protective equipment; work in noisy environment; use sanitation/cleaning chemicals; work around strong smells/odors; climb/move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways and platforms; bend, stoop, twist repetitively over the course of a shift; walk long distances; lift up to 60 lbs or use mechanical assistance.
