Material Handler

This role supports a heavy industrial manufacturing operation by safely handling, moving, and preparing materials using overhead cranes and manual methods. The material handler measures, drills, cleans, loads, and unloads materials to ensure efficient production flow, while following detailed work orders and safety guidelines in a non-climate-controlled facility.

Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret work orders or follow verbal instructions to determine which materials or containers need to be moved or delivered.
  • Drill materials and clean poles as needed, adapting to changing production needs in a flexible role.
  • Load and unload materials by hand onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Measure materials accurately down to 1/16 of an inch to prepare items for the burn table and other production processes.
  • Move product and scrap materials to chip bins and trash containers as needed to maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Operate overhead cranes to handle large industrial materials, ensuring proper rigging, lifting, and placement.
  • Perform general labor tasks to support production, including manual handling and basic material preparation.
  • Assist with unloading incoming materials and organizing them in designated storage areas.
  • Follow all safety guidelines, rules, and procedures while employing safe working habits at all times.
  • Collaborate with production and operations teams to ensure materials are available where and when needed.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility.
Essential Skills
  • Proven overhead crane experience in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Heavy industrial material handling experience, including moving large and heavy materials safely.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure, including measurements down to 1/16 of an inch.
  • Experience performing general labor and production support tasks in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and consistently employ safe working habits.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Willingness to perform manual labor and remain flexible with job duties as production needs change.

  • Machine operation experience preferred, especially for future opportunities once brought on directly.
  • Experience working with overhead cranes in place of primary forklift operation.
  • Background in unloading materials and organizing them in manufacturing or warehouse environments.
  • Comfort working in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility.
  • Strong attention to detail when measuring, preparing, and handling materials.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with production and operations teams in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment

This position is based in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility that handles heavy industrial materials. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with additional Saturday work as needed based on production demands. Work involves extensive manual labor, including lifting, moving, and positioning materials by hand and with overhead cranes. The environment requires consistent use of safety practices and appropriate industrial attire suitable for a manufacturing setting.
