Job Statement: The purpose of this position is to help provide for the spiritual nurture and well-being of Mission guests. In accordance with the gospel of Jesus Christ, demonstrate God’s love to every guest, program participant, or any person entering the doors of John 3:16 Mission.

Duties:

  • Facilitate all aspects of the Shelter’s chapel ministries. This includes upkeep of the chapel and equipment, oversight of those ministering or assisting in nightly services, leading quarterly chapel speaker trainings, and upkeep of the chapel calendar schedule.
  • Uphold the Mission’s policies, Doctrinal Distinctives, and Statement of Faith within the chapel ministry.
  • Teach, preach, and be available to fill-in for nightly chapel services.
  • Conduct communion, baptism, memorial, and funeral services.
  • Develop a yearly chapel ministry plan to set the spiritual agenda for chapel services.
  • Encourage prayer, the reading of scripture, quiet time, and other practices that develop the spiritual discipline of everyone we serve.
  • Foster community at the Shelter by promoting vulnerability, honesty, forgiveness, fellowship, and Christ-like love.
  • Lead the Shelter Events Team to plan events such as Everybody’s Birthday, the Christmas Party, and the Freedom Celebration.
  • Offer opportunities for spiritual guidance and counseling for shelter guests and Overcomers.
  • Perform pastoral visits to guests and Overcomers in the hospital or in jail.
  • Collaborate with the Overcomer Committee to establish policies, enforce guidelines, and establish curriculum.
  • Serve as the volunteer liaison at the Shelter location.
  • Recruit and meet regularly with mentors and potential chapel speakers, including those assisting in chapel services.
  • Be familiar with server schedules and available to server groups when they arrive. Assist with training when needed.
  • Attend Mission meetings and functions.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Education and experience in homelessness and recovery issues including mental health, substance abuse, etc. Background or interest in Mission work.
  • Knowledge of a trauma informed system of care preferred.
  • Mature Christian leader or pastor with 3 years experience in a pastoral/ministry setting preferred.
  • Possesses ordination credentials from a recognized and reputable ministry organization preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organization, communication, and time management skills.
  • Possesses sound judgement, objectivity, and sensitivity.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with current software operating systems.
  • Possesses the maturity to work in harmony with all employees of the Mission.
  • Demonstrate a personal, mature, and growing relationship with Christ, manifesting a servant’s heart, possessing a teachable spirit, and have an extensive knowledge of God’s Word.
  • Pass a background check, drug screening, and possess a valid driver’s license.
