Job Summary
Coordinates activities of personnel on assigned shift(s) to maintain continuity of care, patient flow and throughput accountability. Arranges for staffing levels according to acuities and census. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing and hospital standards and unit policies and procedures for the purpose of monitoring and evaluating patient functional status.
Minimum Education & LicensureHas completed the basic professional curricula of a school of nursing as approved and verified by a state board of nursing, and holds or is entitled to hold a diploma or degree therefrom. Valid multi-state or State of Oklahoma Registered Nurse License.
Work Experience1 – 2 years related experience.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
Demonstrates ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations. Facilitates communication between nursing and other departments to ensure continuity and collaboration of services. Knowledge of policy and procedures related to education, human resources, safety, fire/emergency preparedness, infection control, MSDS. Performs crisis intervention and triage. Knowledge of delivery of patient care that optimizes patient safety. Understanding of management principles and supervision.
Proficiency in psychiatric nursing theory, practices, techniques and procedures. Ability to analyze complex situations, make responsible decisions, and communicate agency procedures and requirements clearly. Self‑organization and prioritization. Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication. Commitment to change. Knowledge of psychosocial, cognitive and developmental disorders. Basic PC skills for electronic documentation and data review.
Uses the nursing process and physician orders to develop individualized patient care plans. Provides care/interventions based on the plan; continually assesses effects of interventions, medication and treatments. Participates in discharge planning. Guides nursing staff in utilizing these processes. Documents steps in the nursing process in the medical record with appropriate terminology. Reports observations and findings to appropriate personnel. Complies with all health system, hospital and unit safety guidelines.
Coordinates safe environmental conditions, monitors safety and infection control compliance. Responds to emergencies. Applies teaching/learning principles to promote patient health education. Provides patient/family education throughout stay and estigates complaints and incidents; reports to nurse manager. Completes variance reports. Meets competencies annually. Supports system goals by attending meetings, in‑services and educational offerings. Practices self‑direction and professional growth. Participates in economical use of supplies, equipment maintenance, orientation of new personnel, performance improvement, and quality improvement projects.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Independent judgment in planning operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field. Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise). Leads others in same work performed (does not supervise). Provides input on performance evaluations. Works directly with patients, internal and external customers, and other healthcare professionals and staff.
