Job DescriptionProvides high-quality, evidence-based clinical care by working within the Oklahoma APRN scope of practice, current clinical guidelines, agency protocols, and applicable program requirements. Primarily responsible for, but not limited to, providing clinical services in Family Planning/Reproductive Health, STI, and Adult Health programs while delivering patient-centered care and promoting equitable access to quality healthcare. Serves as a collaborative member of the Office of Preventative Health Services team and contributes to a positive workplace culture through professionalism, accountability, compassion, and respectful communication.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Obtain comprehensive health histories.
- Document medical information in the EHR in a standardized, systematic, and timely manner.
- Perform evidence-based physical examination on patients.
- Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic conditions with the APRN scope of practice.
- Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic and screening tests.
- Inform patients of test results, medications, and ancillary testing procedures per stated protocols and guidelines.
- Provide detailed patient education and counseling on various methods of contraception to include barrier, hormonal, non-hormonal, long-acting-reversible contraception, and sterilization for shared decision-making.
- Provide patient education and counseling on STI management, vaginitis, cervical cancer screening, and other preventative health services.
- Prescribe medications, including long-acting-reversible contraception, and treatment plans in accordance with evidence-based guidelines.
- Collaborate with client regarding plan of care, utilizing shared clinical decision-making.
- Motivate patients to assume personal responsibility for their own health.
- Consult and collaborate with health care providers and community agencies to coordinate comprehensive patient care and facilitate appropriate referrals when healthcare needs are outside the scope of THD. Provide efficient and comprehensive health care.
- Answer nurse calls from patients, physicians, hospitals, and the general public.
- Provide professional expertise, consultation and technical assistance to public health nurses, ancillary staff, and students.
- Serve as a clinical resource and consultant to PHNs for urgent, complex, or unusual client concerns and medical emergencies.
- Serve as preceptor &/or mentor to PHNs, APRN students, nursing students, ancillary staff, medical students, and residents.
- Complete required training, quality improvement activities, and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements including national certification and state licensure.
- Adhere to the THD Code of Conduct.
- Other duties as assigned including those required to fulfill activities in support of public health emergency operations.
Education:
- Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner/APRN program.
- Recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing.
- Certification by a national nursing organization required.
Licenses:
- Current Oklahoma Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license.
- Current basic life support (BLS) certificate/card.
- Nexplanon provider certification preferred.
- Valid Oklahoma Driver's License.
Experience:
- Three years of experience as a professional nurse preferred.
- Experience in women's health, family planning, public health, primary care, or community health preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of Nurse Practitioner (NP) clinical experience required.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, adaptation to multifaceted situations, and physical assessment skills are required to work effectively in this position.
- Knowledge of the principles and practice of advanced practice nursing, particularly relating to public health nursing.
