Schedule
: M-F 7:30am- 1:30pm, 40 weeks/year
The primary goal of the School Nurse is to care for student health injuries and illnesses expediently and safely. The School Nurse works with parents, students, and staff to control and prevent disease and develop optimum health for each student. The School Nurse will carry out the routine daily requirements for students, such as tube feeding, urinary catheterization, and administration of medicines.
The School Nurse clearly understands and embraces that they are a part of Little Light House Tulsa, a Christian ministry with Biblical core values whose mission is to glorify God by improving the quality of life for children with special needs, their families, and communities.
Key ResponsibilitiesDocumentation:
Completes documentation for each student seen in the Nurse's Office, including their chief complaint, treatment, and outcome for each student.
Prepares and maintains a cumulative health record for each student. Documents results of screening and designated health information.
Assists in collecting and maintaining student plan of care. (i.e., seizure, aspiration risk, allergy info).
Assists in completing student/staff accident reports and routes them to the Director of Children's Services.
Helps maintain a confidential list of students' health conditions/diagnoses.
Health Care:
Administers medication and tube feeding for students as required.
Follows LLH policy regarding infection-control measures.
Implements appropriate classroom health procedures.
Assists teachers with implementing activities as recommended by physical, occupational, speech, and/or AT therapists.
Assists in the training, supervision, and encouragement of classroom volunteers.
Adheres to all program policies and procedures, including universal precautions.
Nurse's Office:
Assumes responsibility for maintaining a sanitary, neat, and orderly environment in the nursing office.
Follows LLH policy regarding the cleaning of nursing office equipment and facilities.
Cleans and disinfects nursing equipment, furniture, toilet facility, and flooring daily.
Training and Compliance
Attend workshops/seminars as requested, CS In-services, and relevant conferences.
Maintains CPR records/compliance for staff.
Facilitating annual Flu shot clinic for staff.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
Must hold a valid RN certification from the Oklahoma Board of Nursing.
At least three years' experience working with children from birth through six years old.
At least one year working with children with special needs.
At least one year practicing nursing in a school setting.
Obtain/Maintain CPR certification.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to react quickly, calmly, and decisively in a crisis.
Maintains confidential information using discretion and judgment.
Support for and participation in the Little Light House transdisciplinary team approach to Special education.
Excellent communication skills, learning new tasks, teamwork, organization, initiative, self-discipline, and self-directed job completion.
Works independently and cooperatively as a team member with all LLH staff.
Demonstrates emotional stability, maturity, and a desire to grow spiritually such that spiritual principles are reflected in day-to-day interactions, with a genuine concern for a job well done.
Incorporate a welcoming and teaching attitude towards guests, student interns, and others who come to learn from the Little Light House team.
Basic knowledge of special education.
Working Conditions
Part-time, Non-exempt position.
Occasional evening and weekend hours required for fundraising events.
Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry 20lbs.
