Duties and Responsibilities:

• Demonstrates the ability to exercise independent technical judgments.
• Possess and applies a comprehensive working knowledge of the principles, art, and science of practical nursing.
• Demonstrates broader knowledge skill with respect to these responsibilities than employees at lower grades.
• Responsible for goals and interventions that promote Veterans in attaining maximum functional potential.
• This knowledge base includes the use of Veteran care data to initiate active contributions to the Veteran's overall health plan.
• Knowledgeable of program regulations and performs objectives of the nursing program.
• Promotes and demonstrates nursing concepts in the Medical Center.
• Works in collaboration with the Registered Nurse (RN), and or Health Care Provider (HCP).
• Demonstrates the ability to work independently without the need for readily available supervision and communicates effectively with the Veteran, families, caregivers, professionals, and other supportive staff.
• Demonstrates understanding of age and population-specific characteristics that affect the health care needs of the Veteran.
• Adheres to standards of practice and safe technique in preparation and administration of medication.
• Demonstrates advanced knowledge of the effects and/or reactions caused by medications, treatments, and procedures.
• Observes for physical and/or emotional changes in patient's condition from prescribed medications/treatments, promptly records and reports these observations.
• Performs personal care, diagnostic support duties, and treatments according to procedure under the direction of the professional nurse in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
• Appropriately triages and prioritizes patient needs as routine, urgent, or emergent in the clinic setting and modifies patient care/treatment plan as needed. Seeks assistance of the RN and/or MD and initiates appropriate emergency interventions as directed.
• Checks patient into the clinic, interviews patient, and documents intake data as per policy.
• Completes assignments in a timely manner with constructive utilization of remaining time.

• Clearly demonstrates ability to comprehend, interpret, and function within the individual's discipline as a licensed practical/vocational nurse. Independently plans and organizes patient care assignments to meet the needs of the clinic.
• Provides education, develops educational tools, and facilitates training for LPNs/LVNs and/or Nursing Assistants (NAs)/Health Technicians (HTs) to better understand specialty clinic processes and procedures at minimum on an annual basis. Participates in ongoing activities/education/certification opportunities demonstrating personal accountability for owning one's practice.

Work Schedule:

7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday
