QAI Laboratories is a testing, inspection and certification organization serving manufacturers of electrical products, building products, vehicles, factory-built structures, and other regulated products. The QAI name and logo have grown significantly over the past few years, driving expansion of our business.

We are looking for a Technician – Fire Testing to join our Building Products team in Tulsa, OK and support future expansion. Ideal candidates hold a technical diploma and have at least four years of experience in a structural or construction laboratory testing environment, with knowledge of common ASTM, UL and CSA test methods related to building products. Flexibility in work schedule and willingness to work overtime when needed are desired.

• Maintain a level of technical competence in the specified field of testing to ensure the validity of test results.
• Conduct supervised and/or unsupervised testing, data analysis, and test report preparation per the QAI competency matrix.
• Operate relevant test equipment and perform basic maintenance of test equipment.
• Maintain proper calibration records.
• Provide sales support, quoting, and participate in client meetings when requested.
• Effectively handle multiple projects, conflicting timelines, and changing priorities.
• Learn key standards in the subject area and resolve technical issues with the team.
• Produce necessary documentation and ensure alignment with QAI’s core values.
• Maintain housekeeping, safety, and use PPE consistently.
• Communicate effectively with internal staff and clients; willingness to travel as needed.
• Navigate the quality management system and adhere to QAI’s policies.
• Meet departmental goals and objectives, including KPIs for productivity and turnaround time.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Operations Manager or its designee.

• Effectively complete projects of limited complexity, preparing data sheets, test reports, and related documentation under supervision.
• Knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, data acquisition, operating principles, calibration, and general laboratory procedures.
• Basic understanding of ISO 17025, accreditation requirements, and QAI’s quality procedures.
• Good at communicating with clients and coworkers, demonstrating professionalism.
• Understanding of QAI’s safety policies; able to identify and resolve safety issues.
• Experience with MS Office and other relevant software.
• Basic understanding of QAI’s HR and safety policies.
• Competency to move from level 1 to level 2 within the business stream.

• Accept and follow instruction for testing outside of general knowledge.
• Grasp general concepts in the field of testing and apply them to specific test methods.
• Graduate to more complex testing methods as knowledge grows.
• Seek assistance from senior personnel when requirements fall outside of general expertise.
• Maintain good working knowledge of test methods in specific discipline.
• Multitask efficiently and accurately.
• Take ownership and responsibility for assigned projects.

• Must hold a valid driver’s license.
• Previous experience with construction materials and building code compliance practices in the US and Canada is an asset.
