Senior Archaeologist – Texas/Louisiana/Oklahoma/Arkansas Region

WSP is currently initiating a search for an experienced Senior Archaeologist for our Texas/Louisiana/Oklahoma/Arkansas region. Locations considered:
Houston TX, San Antonio TX, Dallas/Fort Worth TX, El Paso TX, New Orleans LA, Tulsa OK, and Shreveport LA.

This is a writing- and compliance-focused role (approximately 2/3 report writing & research, 1/3 field support), ideal for someone who prefers thoughtful, detail-oriented work over full-time field supervision.

Your Impact
  • Manage heritage and cultural resources, preserving histories for the future.
  • Deliver quality cultural resource compliance for diverse clients.
  • Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other tools to determine exact locations of project areas, site impact, and associated physical and archaeological sensitivities.
  • Prepare and assist with completing cultural resources survey reports, data entry, and impact assessment for assigned projects (e.g., CEQA, NEPA, etc.).
  • Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, reporting, and record compliance and retention.
  • Provide risk identification and impact assessment, offering input with moderate to high-level threat mitigation and compliance activities to minimize or negate impacts to resources of cultural and scientific significance.
  • Assist with overseeing and working with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
  • Interact with regulatory and historical preservation agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, historic preservation, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant post‑education experience in the context of Section 106/110 compliance.
  • Experience in CRM archaeology, preferably in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, or Arkansas.
  • Qualify as a Principal Investigator on state and federal permits in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.
  • Understanding of regulatory framework for cultural resource management compliance.
  • Excellent technical writing and demonstrated experience contributing to technical reports, preparing cultural resources impact evaluations, siting reports, and environmental permit applications, including field surveys, peer review, and reporting.
  • Working knowledge and experience with State and Federal protection regulations, preservation guidelines, and consulting processes pertaining to the specific cultural resources position.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Acted as a principal investigator overseeing state permitted projects in the last two years.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a scientific and non-scientific audience.
  • Ability to support business development initiatives.
  • Highly capable self‑leadership with attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
  • Developed critical thinking and problem‑solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most effective solutions to accomplish objectives of assigned projects.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.
