** Job Summary*
* Under minimal supervision and oversight, the Environmental Technician is responsible for the performance of environmental inspections, data management, and reporting requirements to comply with environmental compliance programs, permit requirements, and corporate environmental policies, standards, procedures and strategic environmental goals within their assigned region, plant and project scope. The Environmental Technician will provide environmental compliance field support during and after construction for a variety of construction project types.

Responsibilities include performance of inspections, collection of data, and the development of reports to demonstrate compliance with applicable requirements at multiple AEP assets within the assigned region within regulatory time frames. In collaboration with environmental support staff, the Environmental Technician will advise and train construction field personnel on applicable environmental regulations and permit requirements. The Environmental Technician is also responsible for informing appropriate AEP staff of issues identified during inspections or field observations that must be addressed through internal business processes.

The Environmental Technician should have a working knowledge of some the following environmental programs:

- Coal Combustion Residual Surface Impoundments and Landfills,

- NPDES Construction Stormwater Permits

- State & Local Permits for Erosion & Sediment Control

- Floodplain Permits

- Wetland Delineation Protocols

- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Permit Programs, including Section 10, Section 404 and Section 408

- State Section 401 Programs and Permit Requirements

- Threatened & Endangered Species

- Cultural Resources

- Above ground and underground storage tanks,

- Transportation of hazardous materials,

- Solid and hazardous waste management,

- Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures,

- Wastewater, storm water, groundwater, and drinking water sampling, reporting and control,

- Oil and chemical spill response and management,

- Air emissions monitoring, control and reporting,

- Asbestos and PCB management,

- Pollution prevention,

- Environmental site assessments, and

- Emergency planning, and community right-to-know.

Key competencies of this position are technical expertise, planning and organization ability, attention to detail, written and oral communication skills and initiative.

* · Perform environmental inspections within the assigned region using AEP approved forms and methods within regulatory time frames. Communicate deviations appropriately.

Collect data as needed to support environmental compliance reporting using AEP approved methods.

· Prepare and submit reports as assigned.

· Advise and quality assure field activities in support of the assigned region to ensure compliance with environmental laws and permits.

· Provide training instruction and assistance to others on the implementation of environmental permit and regulatory requirements.

· Promote and enforce (see something, say something, do something) safe work practices to safeguard employees, contractors, the general public, and Company facilities.

· Provide support during environmental compliance reviews.

· Effectively communicate environmental compliance issues to appropriate internal parties.

· Maintain all environmental documents and records in accordance with environmental content management standards.

· Since a considerable amount of time will be spend driving from one AEP asset to the other, safe driving techniques and practices are essential.

** Basic Qualifications*
* Education:

High School diploma or preferred associate or bachelor's degree in an environmental, science, or related discipline. Previous military experience will be considered to meet the associate degree requirement.
