Position Summary

The Director of Safety and Security is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and oversight of a comprehensive safety and security program for GRAND Mental Health, headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with facilities located across the State of Oklahoma. This role ensures a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors while preserving the warm, welcoming culture that reflects the organization’s Core Values.

The Director serves as the organization’s primary authority on all matters related to campus security, emergency preparedness, threat assessment, crisis management, and risk mitigation. This position works closely with executive leadership, local law enforcement, emergency services, and community partners to protect the physical and emotional well‑being of the GRAND Mental Health community.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in security and emergency management while understanding the unique balance required in a behavioral health environment – maintaining a high level of safety and vigilance without creating an institutional or restrictive atmosphere.

Education, Qualifications, and Experience
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of professional experience in law enforcement, security management, emergency management, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing security programs, emergency operations plan, and crisis response protocols.
  • Strong knowledge of physical security principles, including access control, surveillance systems, threat assessment, and perimeter security.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with patients, staff, visitors, law enforcement, and community stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to remain calm, think critically, and make sound decisions under pressure during high‑stress situations.
  • Strong written communication skills for developing policies, procedures, reports, and training materials.
  • Proficiency with security technology platforms, including camera systems, access control software, and visitor management tools.
  • Valid Oklahoma driver’s license and ability to pass a comprehensive background check, psychological evaluation, and random drug testing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Emergency Management, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in a commercial, academic or medically related multi‑campus security environment.
  • Law enforcement background, including applicable state or federal certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of physical security principles, including access control, surveillance systems, perimeter security, and threat assessment.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety and security regulations and compliance standards.
  • Proficiency with security technology platforms, including camera systems, access control software, visitor management systems, and emergency notification tools.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to develop policies, procedures, reports, and training materials.
  • Ability to interact professionally with patients, staff, visitors, community stakeholders, and law enforcement agencies.
  • Ability to remain calm, think critically, and make sound decisions in high‑pressure or emergency situations.
  • Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

  • Develop and implement a strategic Safety and Security Plan for the organization that balances the need for patient care with safety and security of the environment for patients, staff and visitors.
