Unarmed Security Officer - 30 hr. / week
Position OverviewAt Tulsa City-County Library, this role ensures the safety and security of library staff, customers, and property while delivering excellent customer service.
Responsibilities- Conduct regular patrols of the interior and exterior of library buildings in all-weather conditions.
- Monitor (on foot and through the security camera system) buildings for unauthorized and suspicious activities.
- Report safety, security, and hazardous conditions to Security Management and Library Management.
- Respond immediately to unusual or emergency situations.
- Take appropriate action to ensure the safety and security of Library staff, customers, and property.
- Enforce TCCL policies, rules, and regulations, and communicate with customers who fail to comply with Library rules and policies.
- Explain rules and policies to customers and solicit cooperation and compliance.
- Enforce correction of infractions through verbal warning and de-escalate sensitive situations.
- Maintain proficient use of all assigned protective equipment and life‑saving devices.
- Complete and understand all required security and compliance training within 90 days of employment.
- Maintain CLEET Unarmed Security Officer License throughout employment.
- Maintain a valid Oklahoma driver’s license and reliable transportation to move between locations as needed.
- Use strong interpersonal and communication skills to respond appropriately in stressful and potentially dangerous situations, sometimes involving unruly or disruptive customers.
- Minimum two years experience in a security position preferred.
- At least one year of security experience in a public setting dealing with mental health, drug abuse, homelessness, safe place situations, etc.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
- Hold a valid CLEET Unarmed Security Officer License.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
$16.25 - $19.47 per hour, starting wage based on experience. Competitive pay and a full benefit package (medical, dental, 457(b), paid time off) are offered.
Schedule & Locations30 hours per week (5 days on, 2 days off). Requires evenings, weekends, and the ability to work multiple locations. A valid Oklahoma driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
Physical & Environmental ConditionsWork is generally physically comfortable, but occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional light lifting up to 20 lbs may be required. The job may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, such as working in a confined area for long periods of time, dealing with angry or unruly customers, occasional exposure to office chemicals and extensive use of video display terminals, and exposure to less than optimal temperature and air conditions.
