The purpose of this job is to provide supervision and coordination of workers (both skilled and unskilled) engaged in various construction projects such as highway structures, clearing right‑of‑way, pile driving, subgrade preparation, road surfacing, curb installation, underground utilities, traffic control, concrete paving, and related work. The goals include scheduling work to meet timetables in a safe manner, meeting the plans and specifications, and controlling costs.
SupervisoryResponsibilities
Skilled and semi‑skilled hourly employee‑owners.
Functional Areas of Responsibility
- Manage a small onsite equipment fleet.
- Recruit hourly trade personnel.
- Execute “Look Ahead” schedules.
- Manage craftsmen, equipment, and material resources.
- Plan logistics.
- Execute project work plans.
- Work crews productively and efficiently; meet daily cost objectives.
- Provide training.
- Purchase unincorporated materials, tools, supplies.
- Maintain a safe workplace.
- Ensure quality of work.
- Review contract documents, submittals, shop drawings, and schematics to determine scope, materials, and manpower.
- Execute work plans for major components and monitor adherence.
- Order self‑perform materials, supplies, and small tools from approved suppliers; ensure timely procurement.
- Monitor daily labor costs and production rates against budgets.
- Encourage craftsmen to develop innovative methods for efficiency and profitability; provide feedback and coaching.
- Report hourly time cards.
- Maintain equipment; conduct preventive maintenance training.
- Provide a detailed daily construction plan and a weekly plan.
- Manage QA/QC inspection scheduling.
- Inspect work in progress and ensure compliance with tolerances; take corrective action.
- Lead crew into a coordinated unit and motivate.
- Promote training and development through on‑job and company programs.
- Recommend personnel actions (promotions, discharges, discipline); motivate workers.
- Supervise subcontractors for compliance with plans, specs, schedule.
- Conduct toolbox and JHA safety meetings.
- Enforce all safety regulations and company policies.
- Investigate alternative work methods and materials to improve efficiency and quality.
- Ensure compliance with plans and specs.
- Perform tasks associated with project completion: punch lists, demobilization.
- Maintain a detailed daily report of all field activity.
- Ensure equipment is used appropriately.
- Interpret company policies and disseminate Equal Employment Opportunity information.
- Conduct on‑job training and log hours on Foreman’s Daily Control.
- Fill out Foreman’s Daily Control with owner hours, job number, cost codes, quantities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requires sitting, using hands, standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, lifting up to 25 or 50 pounds, and visual tasks. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.
Qualifications Required for This Position- Education:
no minimum. - Valid driver license.
- 5+ years of industrial and supervisory experience (preferred).
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship.
