Automotive Transmission Technician
Job Summary:
An Automotive Transmission Technician diagnoses, repairs, rebuilds, and maintains automatic and manual transmissions, transaxles, clutches, and related drivetrain components. The technician uses specialized diagnostic equipment and repair procedures to ensure vehicles operate safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose transmission and drivetrain problems using computerized diagnostic tools and road tests.
- Remove, disassemble, inspect, rebuild, and reinstall automatic and manual transmissions.
- Repair or replace transmission components, including gears, clutches, seals, valves, torque converters, and bearings.
- Perform transmission fluid changes, flushes, and preventative maintenance services.
- Repair and service drivetrain components such as differentials, transfer cases, driveshafts, and axles.
- Interpret technical manuals, service bulletins, and repair specifications.
- Conduct post-repair testing to verify proper operation and performance.
- Maintain accurate repair records and communicate findings to service advisors and customers.
- Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean and organized.
- Provide clear, professional communication with customers regarding vehicle issues, services, and repairs
- Collaborate with a dedicated team of technicians and service advisors to ensure timely, accurate, and efficient repairs
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to safety and company policies
- High school diploma or GED.
- Technical training in automotive technology preferred.
- Experience diagnosing and repairing automatic and manual transmissions.
- Ability to use scan tools, diagnostic software, and specialized transmission equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Ability to lift heavy components and work in a physically demanding environment.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Reliable transportation
- Own Tools
- Proven experience working in our field
- Ability to pass pre-employment screenings (background check and drug test)
- Certification from National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), particularly in automatic transmission/transaxle repair.
- Experience with domestic vehicle manufacturers.
- Knowledge of electronic transmission control systems and vehicle drive trains.
- FORD Certified a plus.
