Construction Maintenance Tech II
Full time, Regular, Compensation: $42,021.50
Basic PurposePositions in this family are assigned responsibilities related to the construction, maintenance, repair, or upkeep of buildings, grounds, or other state property, requiring no license. This may include assisting in the construction or renovation of buildings, general maintenance and upkeep of plumbing, heating, air conditioning, electrical and other systems, minor repairs to machinery or other equipment, and general maintenance of grounds or lawns.
TypicalFunctions
- Conducts Maintenance and Repair (MR) activities primarily at Legacy Readiness Centers in the East region. Maintains preventive maintenance activities on all facility equipment, supervises and assists contracted repair technicians when required.
- Maintains, reviews and submits motor vehicle maintenance records, fuel man reports, and time & attendance reports. Requests work orders as needed for preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Performs minor repairs on heating, refrigeration, air‑conditioning equipment, boilers, chiller units, etc. Coordinates with users to schedule work. Routine work orders completed within 30 calendar days, essential within 7 days, emergency within 24 hours.
- Performs carpentry MR work: erects and maintains scaffolds, sheds, forms, frames, fences; alters and repairs doors, floors, partitions, stairways, windows; fits and glazes glass; repairs roofs.
- Replaces, maintains and repairs plumbing fixtures and equipment. Coordinates scheduling with users.
- Operates, maintains and repairs construction equipment (trucks, tractors, forklifts, mowers, edgers). Ensures safe operation and accountability of tools.
- Replaces and repairs electrical items such as light fixtures, receptacles, switches; troubleshoots non‑licensed electrical repairs.
- Supervises contractors performing maintenance of generators, fire suppression systems, pest services, etc., according to contract scopes.
This is the specialist level where employees perform specialized skilled work in one or more building trades and general maintenance or repair work. Supervisory responsibilities may include overseeing projects, other employees, or crew leadership.
Education and ExperienceFour years of experience in one or more building trades or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and CompetenciesKnowledge of principles, methods, materials, fixtures, tools, and equipment used in building and maintenance trades; occupational hazards and safety precautions; ability to use tools, construct, maintain or repair structures or equipment; ability to follow written and oral instructions and establish effective working relationships.
Physical Requirements- Ability to lift/carry a minimum of 40 pounds.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions (over 95°F and below 20°F).
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
- Depend on a favorable background check.
- Depend on passing a pre‑employment drug and alcohol screening.
- Considered essential personnel (work during inclement weather).
- Available to work if called in due to an emergency.
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must obtain and maintain a Tier 1 security clearance (eligible only to U.S. citizens).
- 12‑month trial period.
