Position: Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Technician I

An Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Technician locates, identifies, recovers, and safely disposes of military munitions and explosives of concern (MEC). They conduct inspections on incoming and outgoing ammunition shipments, along with the proper storage of ammunition in collection points. The work is primarily on Fort Sill, Oklahoma military range, surrounding construction sites, and training areas surrounding the base. Position will arrange for cleanup of environmental areas and follow guidelines according to Department of the Army pamphlets and training manuals.

Responsibilities
  • Conducts accountability and serviceability inspections on incoming and outgoing shipments, field returns, and on ammunition in storage.
  • Inspects ammunition in storage periodically, ensuring adherence to proper safety and compatibility requirements.
  • Inspects incoming and outgoing commercial and military shipments to verify accuracy of shipment contents and to ensure operating condition of vehicle prior to entering or exiting the military installation.
  • Reports all violations to Supervisor and QASAS and provides input for ammunition condition report (ACR), as required.
  • Inspects field returns for damage and serviceability, classifies ammunition and containers to determine corrective measures required before ammunition may be returned to storage, or whether it requires return to ammunition depot.
  • Performs renovation, remarking, and re-stenciling as required prior to returning items to stock.
  • Notifies stock record section concerning ultimate condition codes assigned and ultimate disposition of items, including status of items returned to storage.
  • Completes all needed depot surveillance record (DSR) comments in the Munitions History Program (MHP) as required.
  • In absence of the QASAS, clears all documents for issue ensuring all restrictions and condition codes are correct, and ammunition is safe to use.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Formal training in ammunition handling required must be certified as ammunition handler.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the receipt, storage, issue, and accountability of ammunition required.
  • Must be knowledgeable of receiving, inspection, and storage procedures as outlined in DA PAM 385-64, FM 9-13, and DA PAM 710-2-2.
  • Must have a working knowledge of applicable ARs, TMs, PAMs, DoD, FORSCOM and TRADOC regulations.
  • Certification is required, IAW TRADOC PC Reg 350-30 for all employees involved in munitions operations.
  • Ability to pass Pre-Employment Drug Test and Background Screening.
  • Ability to receive a favorable TIER-1 investigation result, obtain and maintain a CAC.
  • Applicant must possess a REAL
    -compliant, state-issued driver’s license.
  • Special Conditions and Requirements:
    • May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
    • Work may require extended standing, bending, stooping, and occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs alone, or 100 pounds with the assistance of other warehouse/Ammunition handlers.
    • Work may be done during periods of extreme weather, including heat, cold, humidity and for these reasons must be in good physical condition.
    • Must be able to successfully pass all required training and required courses.
    • Works with a variety of tools, including scales, fuse wrenches, and shoe testers.
Desired Qualifications
  • Special technical training in ammunition such as that conducted by the Defense Ammunition Center is preferred.
