Job SummaryUnder general supervision, overhaul, repair and maintain different types of gasoline and diesel powered engines and automotive equipment, ranging from trucks to earthmoving equipment by performing the following duties.
Job DescriptionAll candidates conditionally offered transfer, promotion or initial hiring into a DOT/safety-sensitive position shall submit to testing for drugs and alcohol and test negative before performing any job functions that are safety-sensitive or require a CDL. External job applicants with a confirmed positive drug or alcohol test result shall be denied employment and shall be required to wait one year before applying for another position within Tulsa County.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Inspect, adjust and replaces necessary units and related parts including valves, pistons, brakes, main bearing assemblies, cooling, ignition and fuel systems of gasoline and diesel powered engines of vehicles, such as trucks and earthmoving equipment.
- Repair and overhaul transmissions, differentials, front and rear end assembles, air compressors, hydraulic systems and other specialized related equipment.
- Perform welding work incidental to completion of repair assignments.
- Make field service calls as necessary.
Job Description
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Skill in use and operation of tools and machinery used in automotive repair and maintenance.
Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and techniques used in repairing light and heavy duty automotive equipment; of operating principles of gasoline and diesel engines; of mechanical repair of heavy duty trucks and construction equipment; of safety precautions; of safety rules and equipment; of departmental policies and procedures.
Ability to diagnose defects in automotive equipment; to adapt available tools and repair parts to specific problems; to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to interpret and work from sketches and pencil diagrams; to maintain the physical stamina necessary to perform heavy manual labor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Education equivalent to graduation from a standard four year high school or general education degree (GED) and three years of satisfactory, full time paid employment as an all-around maintenance mechanic.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak to managers, the public or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
