Field Service Technician II
The Field Service Technician II is responsible for independently installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing HVAC equipment at customer locations. This role contributes to organizational objectives by ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and delivering high-quality customer support. The position works with increased autonomy to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues while serving as a key resource for customers and internal teams. This role plays a critical part in maintaining customer satisfaction, supporting product performance, and promoting service excellence.
Primary Duties:
- Perform installation, startup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HVAC equipment and associated systems at customer sites.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and controls-related issues with minimal supervision.
- Conduct routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and system evaluations to optimize equipment performance.
- Analyze equipment failures, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate service records, including repairs performed, parts used, test results, and customer communications.
- Communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly to customers and internal support teams.
- Support equipment commissioning, startup activities, and operational verification.
- Coordinate with technical support, engineering, and warranty teams to resolve complex field issues.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, company policies, and customer site requirements.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, equipment, and inventory to support efficient service operations.
- Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Assist with field testing and evaluation of new products or product enhancements.
- Provide technical guidance and support to Field Service Technician I team members.
- Support customer training on equipment operation, maintenance, and best practices.
- Assist with warranty investigations and service-related documentation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires a high school diploma or general education degree (GED);
- 4+ years of experience in HVAC service, technical field service, industrial maintenance, or a related field,
- Or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
Preferred:
- Associate degree, technical degree, or vocational training in HVAC, electrical systems, mechanical systems, or a related discipline.
- EPA Certification and HVAC-related certifications.
- Experience with commercial HVAC equipment, refrigeration systems, controls, and building automation systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration systems, electrical controls, and mechanical equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair moderately complex technical issues independently.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, control schematics, service manuals, and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with building automation systems, controls, and communication protocols.
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage workload, prioritize service calls, and work independently.
Essential and Physical Functions:
- Ability to diagnose and resolve moderately complex HVAC and controls issues in the field.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, contractors, and internal support teams.
- Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, and working around operating equipment.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. regularly.
- Ability to use fine and gross motor skills for repairs, diagnostics, and installations.
- Ability to sit and drive for extended periods while traveling to customer locations.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in varying environmental conditions.
