Maintenance Technician I

The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation activities on manufacturing equipment and facility systems to support safe and efficient production operations. This role contributes to organizational objectives by minimizing equipment downtime, maintaining operational reliability, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations. The position works closely with production personnel, maintenance team members, and leadership to ensure equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established quality standards.

This role serves as an entry-level maintenance professional responsible for supporting the upkeep and performance of production equipment and facility assets.

Primary Duties:

  • Perform preventive maintenance activities on manufacturing equipment, machinery, tools, and facility systems in accordance with established schedules and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electromechanical equipment used in manufacturing operations.
  • Assist in diagnosing equipment failures and implement corrective actions to restore production equipment to operational status.
  • Install, align, maintain, and repair motors, pumps, conveyors, gearboxes, valves, bearings, drive systems, and related industrial equipment.
  • Utilize diagnostic equipment to measure voltage, amperage, continuity, pressure, temperature, and other operating parameters.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Perform basic welding, fabrication, pipe fitting, and mechanical assembly activities as needed.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, inspection reports, and preventive maintenance documentation.
  • Assist with equipment installations, relocations, upgrades, and facility improvement projects.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, safety, productivity, and maintenance effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and maintenance standards.
  • Collaborate with production personnel to identify equipment issues and minimize operational disruptions.

Primary Duties May Include, But Are Not Limited To:

  • Assist with inventory management of maintenance parts and supplies.
  • Participate in root cause analysis investigations involving equipment failures and downtime events.
  • Support contractor activities and outside service providers as needed.
  • Assist with facility maintenance activities involving lighting, plumbing, compressed air systems, and building infrastructure.
  • Participate in technical training and development programs to expand maintenance capabilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED;
  • 2+ years of experience in industrial maintenance, manufacturing maintenance, mechanical maintenance, or a related technical field, or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background.
  • Technical school training, vocational certification, apprenticeship program completion, or associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Journeyman certification, Lockout/Tagout training, forklift certification, welding certification, or other maintenance-related certifications preferred.
  • Experience utilizing computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of industrial mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair manufacturing equipment and machinery.
  • Proficiency in the use of hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, schematics, and equipment drawings.
  • Understanding of preventive maintenance practices and equipment reliability concepts.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and maintenance management systems.
  • Basic mathematical skills related to maintenance measurements and calculations.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to established procedures.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing technical and professional development.

Essential and Physical Functions:

  • Ability to evaluate equipment conditions and determine appropriate corrective actions.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to perform maintenance activities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, bending, climbing, and reaching throughout the workday.
