BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Birth through Eight Strategy for Tulsa (BEST) is a comprehensive, integrated approach that focuses on families and empowers parents and caregivers to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty for their children. Through this comprehensive strategy, a network of knitted programs, services and community agencies work together to partner with Tulsa’s families to increase the percentages of:
- Born Healthy
- On a positive developmental trajectory by age 3
- Kindergarten ready
- Achieving success by third grade
Connect First’s mission is to facilitate access to programs and services offering prenatal, postpartum, and social service supports to advance BEST’s goals. Essential to the Birth through Eight Strategy for Tulsa (BEST), Family Navigators partner with parents and other caregivers in Tulsa County to provide compassionate, solution-oriented information and referrals. Their goal is to increase awareness and simplify access to maternal healthcare, early childhood development resources, and support programs.
Family Navigators will manage a monthly caseload and focus on contacting pregnant women recently enrolled in Sooner Care to raise awareness, promote interest, and encourage enrollment in prenatal home visitation services. They will also help meet individual family needs through referrals to other community resources supporting families during a child’s first years. Family Navigators will connect with parents and caregivers via phone calls and texts, build trusting relationships, and ensure families and children access relevant resources within the Tulsa community.
As BEST expands, Family Navigators will have opportunities to participate in other stages of the birth through eight continuum.
The Navigation Supervisor will play a key role in advancing the goals of BEST and realizing the potential of the strategy for children and families. The Navigation Supervisor will provide personalized, ongoing support to connect families to desired programs and services and will supervise a team of Family Navigators and/or Family Liaisons. Together with other BEST implementing partners, the Navigation Supervisor will impact thousands of children across Tulsa County and the country, as other communities draw from and replicate the model.
The Navigation Supervisor will support the Family Navigators and/or Family Liaison team and will manage a monthly caseload by contacting pregnant women recently enrolled in Sooner Care to promote awareness of and enrollment in prenatal and postpartum home visitation services and early childhood programs and services. The Navigation Supervisor will engage with expectant mothers, parents and other caregivers, develop trusting relationships, and ensure that parents and children are connected to relevant and appropriate resources.
