About the Role:

The Activities Director plays a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals by designing, organizing, and overseeing a diverse range of engaging programs and events. This position is responsible for creating inclusive and stimulating activities that cater to the interests and abilities of all participants, fostering social interaction, personal growth, and community involvement. The Activities Director collaborates with staff, volunteers, and external partners to ensure that all activities are safe, well-coordinated, and aligned with organizational goals.

They continuously assess the effectiveness of programs and adapt them to meet evolving needs and preferences. Ultimately, the role aims to promote wellness, creativity, and a sense of belonging among participants through thoughtfully planned recreational and educational experiences.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree in recreation, social work, education, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience in planning and coordinating group activities or programs, preferably in a community, educational, or healthcare setting.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including individuals of varying ages and abilities.
  • Basic proficiency with computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and scheduling software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in activity coordination or recreational therapy (e.g., Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist).
  • Experience working with seniors, children, or special needs populations.
  • First aid and CPR certification.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing teams or volunteers.
  • Familiarity with grant writing or fundraising to support program development.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, plan, and implement a variety of recreational, educational, and social activities tailored to the needs and interests of the community served.
  • Coordinate schedules, resources, and logistics to ensure smooth execution of all activities and events.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and staff involved in activity facilitation.
  • Monitor participant engagement and satisfaction, collecting feedback to improve future programming.
  • Maintain compliance with safety regulations and organizational policies during all activities.
  • Manage budgets related to activity planning and procurement of necessary materials or equipment.
  • Collaborate with other departments and external organizations to enhance program offerings and community outreach.
