Job Description

Responsibilities include driving a school bus and ensuring the safe transportation of high school students between Northeast Technology Center and partner high schools, up to three times per day or as directed. Additional duties: daily pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections, maintaining order on board, following state guidelines, keeping the bus clean, conducting evacuation drills, and any other duties assigned by supervisor or superintendent.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, intermittent hours varying per route. Hours accumulate to approximately 1–4 hours per day depending on route. Supervisor may adjust the schedule.

Compensation

$32.80 per hour, hourly wage set by the board of education. At‑will for the first year of employment; thereafter employment is considered annually.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED (preferred)
  • Current valid Oklahoma School Bus Driving Certificate and commercial driver’s license (air brake endorsement preferred)
  • Completion of a school bus driver course
  • Annual health certificate signed by a licensed physician
  • Pass national criminal background check with fingerprints, DOT physical exam, and drug screening
  • Ability to lift at least 40 pounds
  • U.S. citizenship or legal resident status; not related to current school board members within second degree
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong people skills and self‑starter; ability to work well with high school students
  • Computer skills preferred
Training & Meetings
  • Attend required safety training quarterly (video or in person)
  • Attend professional development training per district policy
  • Attend meetings as requested by Administration or Board of Education
Job Knowledge & Abilities

Understand state student transportation laws and safety requirements.

Physical & Mental Demands

Moderate physical effort required for assisting students, inspecting and cleaning the bus, and using standard office equipment. Must be able to work independently and maintain good attendance.

Terms of Employment

At‑will for first year; annual employment thereafter. Hourly wage set by the board of education.
