2nd shift Monday-Friday, 3:30 PM-12:00 AM Job Type: Full Time
- At least 1 year of experience hauling, spotting, or moving trailers.
- Ability to safely operate a yard truck and maneuver trailers in a busy yard environment.
- Ability to climb in and out of a spotting truck throughout the workday.
- Ability to jack and hook up trailers safely and correctly.
- Ability to frequently walk, bend, climb, and perform physical tasks throughout the shift.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying seasonal weather conditions.
- Valid CDL Class A license preferred.
The Yard Spotter / Yard Jockey is responsible for safely and efficiently moving trailers throughout the facility yard and positioning trailers at the appropriate dock doors. This position requires frequent climbing in and out of the yard truck, hooking and unhooking trailers, jacking trailers, walking, bending, and other physical activity. The majority of the workday is spent outdoors in varying weather conditions.
The ideal candidate has previous experience moving or hauling trailers, understands safe yard operations, and can work independently while maintaining accurate records and following safety procedures.
– Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Complete a daily yard truck inspection using the required inspection form before operating the vehicle at the start of each shift.
- Conduct daily yard checks at the beginning of the shift and provide an accurate report to the warehouse leader.
- Record trailer movements and yard moves on the appropriate forms.
- Safely operate the yard truck while moving trailers throughout the facility yard.
- Efficiently move trailers in and out of dock doors.
- Safely hook and unhook trailers as needed.
- Properly position trailers at assigned dock doors and staging locations.
- Perform required jacking and trailer connection activities.
- Maintain awareness of other trucks, trailers, pedestrians, and equipment operating in the yard.
- Follow all company safety procedures and yard traffic rules.
- Report equipment issues, trailer damage, or safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Maintain accurate documentation of trailer movements and yard activity.
- Assist with other warehouse or yard duties as needed.
- Valid CDL Class A license preferred.
- One year of experience hauling, spotting, or moving trailers preferred.
- Previous experience with a yard truck, spotter truck, terminal tractor, or similar equipment is a plus.
- Strong understanding of safe trailer handling and backing procedures.
- Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, wind, and other seasonal conditions.
- Ability to repeatedly climb in and out of a yard truck throughout the workday.
- Ability to frequently walk, bend, climb, reach, and maneuver around trailers.
- Strong attention to safety and surroundings.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and manage yard movements efficiently.
