Auditor Accountant, Financial Reporting
Position Summary
The Department of Labor & Industries seeks a Labor & Industries Auditor to support enforcement of industrial insurance compliance. The auditor will independently conduct audits of business financial records to determine premium liability and verify that employers carry the correct industrial insurance and pay the correct amount of premiums for their assigned risk classifications.
Duties and Responsibilities- Identify businesses suspected of non‑compliance
- Screen, schedule, coordinate, and conduct audits of business financial records
- Evaluate and verify financial records
- Conduct computer research on firm accounts with other agency programs
- Review employment contracts and conduct fact‑finding interviews
- Perform on‑site tours of employer facilities and survey operations
- Prepare audit findings reports
- Prepare subpoenas and other legal documents as needed; testify at appeals and court proceedings
- Minimum of 20 semester or 30 quarter hours of college accounting coursework
- Ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field
- Professional accounting or auditing experience:
- Auditor 1 – at least 2 years
- Auditor 2 – at least 1 year
- Auditor 3 – at least 2 years or completion of the L&I Auditor Training Program
- Preferred knowledge of RCW Title 51, WAC 296‑17, and WAC 296‑17A
- Certification such as CPA, Fraud Examiner, Internal Auditor, or equivalent can substitute for one year of experience
Salary ranges by classification:
Auditor 1 – $4,108–$5,506 per month
Auditor 2 – $4,406–$5,928 per month
Auditor 3 – $4,866–$6,542 per month
Duty station:
Tumwater, WA. This is a hybrid position with some in‑office time; telework frequency will be discussed upon offer.
