The salary for this position is: $4,446 - $5,914 monthly

Thurston County Juvenile Court is seeking a professional, motivated, and dependable candidate for the position of Court Accounting Clerk to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for those with an accounting background seeking to begin their career in a great environment and receive excellent benefits.

The first review of applicants will begin on October 7, 2026.

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Prepares, enters, and processes payroll according to established policies and procedures. Calculates and enters hours worked, overtime, holiday and leave time accruals.
  • Receives, receipts, and posts all Juvenile accounts receivable. Reviews status of old accounts and sends follow up letters. Prepares and maintains subsidiary ledgers.
  • Maintains control ledgers, posting from appropriate registers and journals. Reconciles internal registers and ledgers to reports.
  • Performs the accounting-related duties of supervisor in his/her absence which includes preparing payroll and vouchers/accounts payable.
  • Prepares end of the month reports as necessary.
  • Trains staff on JUVIS and billing procedures.
  • During times of absence, as demanded by workload, and as assigned, will perform duties and responsibilities of other Court Assistants.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work Environment – Quiet office setting in Tumwater, Washington. May experience extended periods of sitting/standing.
  • Schedule
    - Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Travel Requirements – Light travel may be expected during working hours.
  • Customer Interactions
    - Daily interactions via phone and in-person with Thurston County staff and the public. Some exposure to hostile or violent individuals is inherent in this position. Ability to clearly converse, listen, and understand the English language is required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED and one year of college level accounting classes.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in a court setting and one year of general accounting experience. Any equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the applicant with the desired knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work will be considered.
  • Ability to type 45 wpm, operate standard office machines, and operate a personal computer with applicable software to successfully perform the essential job functions of the position.
DESIRED SKILLS
  • Associate’s degree in accounting, business, or another related field.
