Job HighlightsThe Employer Services program within the Insurance Services Division is seeking an administrative professional to support the Logger Safety Initiative (LSI). The WA State Logger Safety Initiative (LSI) is a partnership with the WA Contract Loggers Association, WA Forest Protection Association, WA Department of Natural Resources, and L&I. This position is critical in meeting the agency mission to Keep Washington State Safe and Working.
This position reports to the LSI Program Specialist 5 and manages the day-to‑day operations of the program by tracking logger and landowner participation to ensure they align with program requirements and that LSI participants receive their workers’ compensation premium discount.
The Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) is a diverse state agency dedicated to the safety, health, and security of Washington’s workers. We help employers meet safety and health standards and inspect workplaces when alerted to hazards. As administrators of the state’s workers’ compensation system, we are similar to a large insurance company, providing medical and limited wage‑replacement coverage to workers who suffer job‑related injuries and illness.
Our rules and enforcement programs also help ensure workers are paid what they are owed, that children’s and teens’ work hours are limited, and that consumers are protected from unsound business practices.
Insurance Services is the largest division within the agency and administers one of the premier workers’ compensation organizations in the nation serving over 3.8 million employees working for 260,000 employers.
Some of What You’ll Do- Oversee the day‑to‑day operations of the LSI program and act as a program representative and resource.
- Track logger and landowner participation to ensure they align with program requirements and ensure enrollees appropriately receive their workers’ compensation premium discount.
- Use data management software such as data warehouse, Excel, and SharePoint to organize and track data and prepare reports and charts for program participant’s adherence to requirements.
- Develop letters and correspondence to LSI participants.
- Resolve customer complaints, issue or concerns.
- Participate in the external taskforce and committee meetings; assist with coordinating and scheduling meetings, workshops and trainings.
- Ensure the information on the LSI website (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). is accurate and up‑to‑date.
- Report on data, gather information, review data and prepare written recommendations.
- Participate in processes improvements efforts.

Required- Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in business administration, economics, finance, law, public health, or a related field.
- Equivalent education/experience
Note:
Additional qualifying experience may substitute year for year, for the required education. This experience must include four years of direct customer service.
- Must possess a valid, unrestricted Washington State Driver’s License and show proof of personal liability insurance, if driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
- The ability to take action to learn and grow.
- The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.
- Two to three years of experience conducting research and analyzing policies, laws, rules, or regulations.
- At least four (4) years’ experience delivering customer service in person and over the phone and progressively increasing responsibilities in a professional work environment.
- Knowledge of de‑escalation strategies for working with the occasionally agitated external customer and the ability to independently apply them.
- Strong skills using personal computers, laptops, and other hardware.
- Current computer skills including working knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and the ability to learn program specific database applications.
