We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading North American energy and infrastructure contractor, for a Senior Substation Estimator. This role focuses on preparing competitive bids for substation construction and upgrade projects that support critical grid infrastructure.

As a Senior Substation Estimator, your key responsibilities will be to evaluate bid specifications and drawings, ensuring that we know everything required to successfully bid and win the project. Estimators must aggressively follow-up with subcontractors to ensure that bids are received. Estimators also work with the Project Management teams to follow-up on bids and budgets to close the business. Estimators review bid requirements for projects that are approximately $500K or less, ensuring all aspects of the project are documented and accounted for.

Critical for success are the abilities to produce highly accurate work in a timely manner, maintain strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Communication skills, both oral and written, are a must. A strong understanding and being comfortable working with numbers has been a key success to this role. This position provides assistance and direction to other team members but has no management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review bid specifications, drawings, and project documentation to determine scope, requirements, and risks.
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates and pricing strategies for electrical substation construction projects.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive quotations and ensure timely bid submission.
  • Work closely with Project Management teams to clarify scope assumptions and transition winning bids into project execution.
  • Ensure all elements of the project scope are documented and accounted for within the estimate.
  • Participate in bid reviews, scope discussions, and occasional site visits when required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree from a 4-year college or university.
  • Experience in utility construction estimating.
  • At least 5 years of substation estimating experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly advanced Excel.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel occasionally for site visits or bid review.

  • Self‑motivated and comfortable working in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.
  • Collaborative team player who values strong communication and coordination across project teams.
  • Curious, solutions‑oriented mindset with a willingness to challenge assumptions and improve processes.
  • Motivated by contributing to large‑scale infrastructure projects that support critical energy systems.
  • Opportunity to work on essential power infrastructure projects that strengthen grid reliability and support the ongoing modernization of energy networks across the United States.
