Hope and Healing Clinic is seeking a OTP Dispensary Lead Nurse who is eager to support our dispensary team and clinic.
Job Summary
The Dispensary Lead Nurse supports nursing operations related to medication dispensing and clinical services under the supervision and direction of the Dispensary Nurse Manager. This role supports safe, accurate, member‑centered care while providing leadership, guidance, and clinical support to nursing staff. The Lead Nurse collaborates closely with medical providers, counselors, and department leadership to uphold regulatory compliance and deliver concierge‑level member care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Dispensary Support
- Support daily nursing and medication dispensing operations in clinic and on mobile unit
- Reinforce accurate preparation, dispensing, and documentation of Methadone, Buprenorphine, and other approved medications
- Participate in monitoring adherence to physician orders and treatment protocols
Regulatory Compliance & Safety
- Reinforce compliance with SAMHSA, DEA, state OTP regulations, and nursing practice standards
- Maintain strict chain‑of‑custody, inventory control, and security procedures for controlled substances
- Participate in audits, inspections, and corrective action plans
Member Care & Education
- Educate members on medication effects, side effects, overdose prevention, and safety considerations (including safe storage of take‑home medication and proper use of locking container/bag) in accordance with federal and state guidelines
- Monitor members for signs of intoxication, withdrawal, or adverse reactions
- Collaborate with providers to support harm reduction and patient safety initiatives
- Reinforces nursing staff is knowledgeable of all items listed above
- Serve as second‑in‑command to the Dispensary Nurse Manager, providing supervision, mentorship, and support to nursing and dispensary staff.
- Support ongoing training, development, and skills support for LPNs while serving as a consistent advocate for their needs and professional growth within the dispensary.
- Participate with hiring, onboarding and scheduling
- Participate with coverage at mobile unit as needed
- Reinforces staff competency through coaching and training and communicates concerns to the Dispensary Nurse Manager
- Reinforce all nurses are monitoring members for signs of intoxication, withdrawal, or adverse reactions
- Support as a liaison between clinical staff and leadership
Documentation & Coordination
- Reinforce accurate and timely documentation in the EMR and dispensing systems
- Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings as required
- Support workflow efficiency and member experience improvements
- Participate with inventory support related to clinical supplies
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience
- Strong knowledge of medication administration, controlled substance handling, and documentation
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills
Preferred
- Prior leadership or charge nurse experience
- Familiarity with SAMHSA and DEA OTP regulations
- Experience in substance use treatment, behavioral health, or OTP settings and dispensing software
- Experience with EMR systems
- Clinical and dispensing setting
- Early mornings common; to possibly include weekends
- Requires standing, patient observation, and secure medication handling
