Under general supervision, performs entry‑level duties as assigned for maintenance and repair of Port facilities, equipment, and grounds, under the direction of the Airport Facilities Maintenance Foreperson and Maintenance Team. The essential duties and responsibilities listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various work types that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is related or part of a logical assignment to the job.
This position includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Support the integration of a Port-wide maintenance program and coordinate with the Port staff and Maintenance Team, as needed.
- Perform a variety of skilled maintenance jobs, providing follow‑up and recommendations for appropriate actions under the Airport Facilities Maintenance Foreperson's direction. These activities include routine, on‑going preventive, corrective maintenance, repair, and servicing activities of Port facilities, grounds‑keeping, and equipment. Such activities may include, but will not be limited to, construction, mechanical, plumbing, painting, electrical, HVAC, irrigation and landscaping systems, and upkeep to ensure the upkeep of Port assets.
- Comply with the Port Safety Program, Port policies and procedures, and adhere to environmentally sound, safe, and healthy working practices.
- Assist with inspection of alarm, fire, backflow assemblies, pest control, building assessments, and storm water systems; service, and repair as needed.
- Safely escort people and contractors on airfield.
- Cooperate with the Foreperson and Maintenance Team in maintaining records, reference materials, repair logs, timesheets, files, and utilizing the computerized maintenance management programs.
- Assist in inter‑departmental record keeping and budget compliance by tracking time, work order processes, receipts, and costs for projects.
- Meet team‑level improvement goals as planned and agreed.
- Operate Port equipment such as forklifts, lawnmowers, street sweepers, chain saws, tractors, trucks, compressors, paint sprayers, boom trucks, snow removal equipment, and related tools and equipment.
- Maintain professional public relations practices with all Port customers and tenants.
- Work in an active airport environment, safely moving around aircraft and coordinating with air traffic control via radio.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This position classification is essential to continued Port operations during severe weather events and emergencies as determined on a case‑by‑case basis.
- The equivalent of a G.E.D. or higher education.
- Technical school training in mechanics, hydraulics, air, or electrical systems is highly desirable, or equivalent experience working in the building or mechanical trades.
- Proficient knowledge of maintenance shop procedures and practices; safety practices, safe work methods, and safety regulations of the trades listed in job duties.
- Basic understanding of cost estimating and project planning with communication skills to positively participate as an essential player in the overall effectiveness of the Port Maintenance Team.
- Valid Washington State driver’s license.
- Willingness and ability to obtain a Washington State Department of Agriculture’s Public Operator’s Pesticide License (if applicable); a Class A vehicle license or special equipment certification (if applicable), and ability to successfully complete Security Training.
- Willingness to learn and practice safe airfield operating procedures and proper use of aviation vocabulary and radio communications.
- Requirement to maintain a basic first aid/CPR certification.
- Ability to operate with a high level of proficiency heavy & light motorized vehicles & equipment, including but not limited to dump trucks, snowplows, tractors, mowers, compressors, sanders, generators, hand and power tools, detection devices, mobile radio, and phone equipment.
- Highly proficient mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills; knowledgeable computer skills, with an emphasis on Internet searching and Microsoft Office, and an ability to utilize a computerized maintenance program, with basic record keeping acuity.
