SUBSTITUTE BUILDING MAINTENANCE WORKER

QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma or GED. Valid Washington State Driver's license and State/FBI background clearance required. Two years of experience in one or more of the following skilled trades is preferred: carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, low voltage, and/or refrigeration. Scissor lift operator's certification is desired, or ability to obtain.

SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds and direction of the Maintenance Coordinator, serve as a member of the district building maintenance team on an as needed basis; performing routine tasks necessary to the preparation, maintenance and repair of the district buildings and utilities. Performs a wide variety of routine and preventative building maintenance duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Operate a wide variety of power tools, including but not limited to: skill saws, table saws, reciprocating saws, jigsaws, drills, rotary hammers, sanders, and shop vacuums.
  • Use of hand tools related to carpentry, plumbing, and low voltage repairs
  • Replace HVAC air filters, per annual preventative maintenance schedules
  • Replace light bulbs, light covers, and assist with installation of new ballasts
  • Use technology, computers and programs for operation of Safe Schools, Outlook, Skyward/Qmlativ, and K12 software
  • Perform carpet and tile repairs
  • Assist fulltime staff with the repair of boilers, hydronic lines, pumps, motors, fans, compressors, and related air handling and distribution equipment
  • Perform and/or assist with general plumbing repairs, to include unclogging drains, replacing faucets, toilets, and urinals.
  • Perform general carpentry duties, to include drywall patching, texturing, painting, hanging bulletin boards, and installing signage on drywall, concrete, and brick surfaces.
  • Assist full time staff with refrigeration repairs and/or preventative maintenance
  • Provide building access to contractors and government officials, to enable repairs and annual health and safety inspections
  • Operate district vehicles and equipment to include vans, trucks, and scissor lifts.
  • Maintain district vehicles and equipment
  • Deliver paint and cleaning chemicals to local hazardous waste recycling centers
  • Replace and/or repair window blinds and curtains
  • Provide warehouse assistance, including moving surplus and district furniture
  • Clean up and organize work zones, attic spaces, and mechanical rooms
  • Assist fulltime staff with the testing of backflow devices
  • Clean gutters
  • Protect the facilities, resources and interests of the district regarding pilferage, loss, theft, or abuse
  • Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
  • Know and observe good safety procedures; maintain safe working conditions; comply with safety rules and regulations
  • Develop efficient and safe work processes and plans of action to ensure the safety of self and others
  • Ensure safe and proper use of District's vehicles and equipment
  • Protect the interest of the District regarding pilferage, loss, theft, or abuse of all District vehicles and equipment
  • Obtain and maintain all licenses and certificates necessary to accomplish assigned duties and responsibilities
  • Must be punctual and dependable, able to work well with others, maintain good health, have ability to perform heavy physical labor
