HDR is seeking a Utility Coordination and Design Business Class Director. The function of this role is to focus on the technical delivery of our products and services, positioning HDR as a preferred provider in the area of Utility Coordination and Design. The position is regarded as the technical leader for the Business Class, with responsibility for quality assurance, resource availability and development, and project delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Monthly Coordination Calls with Business Class leadership and/or Section managers. Address several key items including:
  • Supporting the ongoing development of the Utility Coordination and Design Business Class.
  • Identifying upcoming projects and/or pursuits that need supportbred from National Business Class leadership.
  • Reviewing upcoming workload and availability of business class staff.
  • Reviewing utilization reports to identify staffing needs (hiring / workshare) and working with Regional Leadership / Section managers to support utilization goals.
  • Identifying participants (and participating when appropriate) in Project Approach and Resource (PARR) reviews and evaluations.
  • Performing project reviews or audits to validate quality practices. When requested, reviewing technical and performance issues on projects and helping to develop remedial action.
  • Serving as the focal point for the Transportation Business Group to deliver Utility Coordination and Design related services in collaboration with other complementary Business Group/Market Sector or Business Classes throughout HDR.

An important aspect of this role is to identify technical leadership within the business class that can assist with key projects, programs and initiatives. The Director will contemplate and participate in hiring, promote staff interaction and communication, accelerate staff technical development and involvement in technical programs, manage workshare and project assignments, and provide direct project support in leading select projects or related assignments.

A highly collaborative environment is a must. The Director will also participate in select marketing activities by supporting or developing project proposals, staffing assignments, and identification of sub‑consultants. Involvement in all phases of project development is expected. The position requires some limited travel to support select project pursuits and delivery nationally.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a professional, architecture, engineering or closely related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a related field.
  • Maintenance of a professional or engineering registration and related technical experience.
  • Experience in the development and management of diverse teams.
  • Cooperative collaboration with other business class directors, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts.
  • Commitment to quality, improvement and HDR values.
  • Active participation in the employee‑owned culture – a must.
Location and Travel

Geographic location is non‑specific; a location with significant HDR presence is preferred. Travel is estimated at 15%, varying monthly between 15% and 25%.
