About the Agency

The Mississippi Division of Medicaid responsibly provides access to quality health coverage for vulnerable Mississippians. Medicaid provides health coverage for eligible, low-income populations in Mississippi. These populations include children, low-income families, pregnant women, the aged and disabled.

About the Position

This is a non-state service, time-limited position. The accountant III performs advanced, complex accounting work in support of managed care finance operations, with a focus on capitation rate development, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance. This position is responsible for reviewing and analyzing financial data, validating capitation payments and related reports, and ensuring alignment with State and federal requirements. The role works closely with actuarial, accounting, finance, compliance, and program teams to support rate-setting activities, evaluate financial trends, and respond to requests from oversight bodies.

Responsibilities also include reviewing Managed Care Organization (MCO) submissions, supporting State-Directed Payment (SDP) initiatives, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information used for decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 4-5 years of experience and/or appropriate certification. AGENCY

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or another closely related business discipline.
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing complex financial data, reports, and reconciliations, with the ability to identify trends, discrepancies, financial risks, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Experience interpreting and applying financial policies, contractual requirements, or regulatory requirements to support sound financial decision-making.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial systems, including experience with data analysis, reconciliation, financial modeling, and reporting.
