Position: Advanced ER Technician-Emergency Department, Variable Shifts

Job Summary

The Emergency Services Advanced ER Tech provides appropriate basic and advanced life support (in accordance with training and protocols) to patients under the guidance of Medical Control to assure delivery of patient care. Performs routine specimen collections, electrocardiographs, routine tests, IV & IO catheters, intubations, patient care functions and technical procedures for which appropriate training and competency is maintained.

Patient Care
  • Performs phlebotomy, EKG’s, patient transport, splints, CPR, medication administration per competency, IV/IO initiation, utilization of cardiac monitoring, defibrillation, pacing and cardioversion, urinary in/out catheterizations, assists with intubation.
  • Operates and maintains equipment properly, performs testing with efficiency.
  • Obtains and documents vital signs, intake and output amounts, and other as designated, collects specimens as required.
  • Must be able to prioritize duties according to current policy.
  • Performs sterile urethral catheterizations.
  • Conducts self in a proficient and professional manner.
  • Compliant with HIPAA regulations at all times.
  • Assists with turning, lifting, and positioning patients to prepare for exams and procedures.
  • Supports and promotes an environment that is conducive to quality customer service.
  • Responds to emergency situations in hospital according to current policy.
  • Properly documents all procedures as required.
  • Obtains equipment or supplies as necessary for patient care.
  • Assists with preparing rooms between patients, cleaning, restocking, and preparing area.
  • Assists physicians and nurses with physical examinations and treatment.
  • Transports patients to other departments in the hospital; may transport patients with IV fluids including IV antibiotics and other IV medication infusions, blood infusion monitoring as needed to allow for transport to other departments per competencies.
  • Maintains a clean work area in patient rooms.
  • Provides wound care – shaves, preps, cleans, and dresses as directed – utilizing sterile technique.
  • Inserts IV & IO catheters.
  • Administers medications as directed.
  • Provides safe appropriate level of care transport of patients (emergency and routine).
  • Maintains appropriate verbal communication with team members to provide care to patient.
Qualifications Education
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent or equivalent. Required.
Licenses and Certifications
  • ACLS
  • PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • CPR – Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation
Work Experience
  • 1-3 years prior direct patient care experience.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Complete in-house computer training
  • Completes hospital and ED basic orientation.
  • Prior experience or training in customer service.
  • Must complete basic orientation competence checklist.
  • Demonstrates basic computer skills
  • Must maintain unit specific annual educational requirements.
  • Knows what is required and limitations of job position.
  • Must have effective communication, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and resources necessary to provide age appropriate care.
