About the Role:
The Lab Assistant I plays a crucial role in supporting the laboratory team at South Central Hospital by ensuring that all laboratory processes run smoothly and efficiently. This position is responsible for preparing and processing specimens, maintaining laboratory equipment, and assisting in various laboratory tests and procedures. The Lab Assistant I will also be tasked with accurately documenting results and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
By performing these duties, the Lab Assistant I contributes to the overall quality of patient care and the reliability of laboratory results. Ultimately, this role is essential in facilitating timely and accurate diagnoses for patients, thereby enhancing their treatment outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures and safety protocols.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting.
- Completion of a medical laboratory technician program or relevant coursework.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems and data entry.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and process biological specimens for analysis, ensuring proper labeling and handling.
- Assist laboratory technologists in conducting tests and following established protocols.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies, including cleaning, calibrating, and restocking as necessary.
- Perform Quality Control on instruments.
- Document and record test results accurately in the laboratory information system.
- Adhere to safety and quality control standards to ensure a safe working environment.
- Assist in set up for Microbiology samples
- Collections of DOT drug screen
