Overview

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) is seeking an experienced and results-driven .NET / Power BI Developer to support enterprise application development, reporting modernization, business intelligence initiatives, and agency-wide data analytics efforts. This role is ideal for a highly skilled developer with strong expertise in Microsoft application development technologies, Power BI reporting, SQL-based data solutions, APIs, and business application modernization.

The selected candidate will transform agency data into actionable insights while improving the reliability, usability, and scalability of internal systems and reporting platforms. The candidate will collaborate closely with agency leadership, MIS staff, and business units to design and deliver technical solutions that improve operational efficiency, reporting visibility, and data‑driven decision‑making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Application Development & Modernization:
    • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain applications using C#, .NET, ASP.NET, and .NET Core technologies.
    • Develop and support internal business applications, APIs, integrations, and web‑based solutions.
    • Modernize legacy applications, workflows, and reporting systems to improve usability, performance, and maintainability.
    • Implement secure coding practices and role‑based access concepts across applications.
  • Power BI & Reporting:
    • Build, maintain, and optimize Power BI dashboards, reports, datasets, semantic models, and visualizations.
    • Develop data models, calculations, and measures using DAX and Power Query.
    • Create executive and operational dashboards that support agency leadership and departmental reporting needs.
    • Improve report usability, visual design, refresh reliability, and data accuracy.
    • Translate raw data into meaningful business insights and actionable reporting solutions.
  • Database & Data Management:
    • Write, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL queries, stored procedures, views, tables, and database objects.
    • Support ETL, data transformation, data cleanup, and reporting automation initiatives.
    • Troubleshoot data quality, reporting, and integration issues across systems.
  • Collaboration & Support:
    • Gather and analyze business requirements and convert them into scalable technical solutions.
    • Collaborate with technical teams, agency leadership, and business stakeholders on modernization initiatives.
    • Document technical processes, report logic, system changes, and support procedures.
    • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and support staff.
    • Support deployment activities, web server configuration, and ongoing application maintenance.
Required Qualifications
  • Proven experience in application development and enterprise programming.
  • Strong hands‑on expertise with C#, .NET / ASP.NET / .NET Core, Power BI development, SQL development, and APIs.
  • Experience developing reports, dashboards, datasets, and visualizations using Power BI.
  • Strong understanding of relational databases, stored procedures, and reporting queries.
  • Experience supporting web applications and web server environments.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within cross‑functional teams.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior developers and technical staff.
Preferred Technical Skills
  • C#, .NET / ASP.NET / .NET Core, Power BI, DAX / Power Query, SQL / SQL Server, ETL & Data Transformation, JavaScript, Angular

    JS / React JS, HTML / CSS / Bootstrap, APIs & Web Forms, Visual Basic, Web Server Management
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in government, public sector, or enterprise IT environments.
  • Experience building executive dashboards, operational reporting systems, and business intelligence solutions.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Azure, Entra .
  • Understanding of data governance, access control, and reporting best practices.
  • Experience supporting modernization, process improvement, or data analytics initiatives.
  • Ability to translate business processes into practical technical solutions.
