The Lumber Manufactory (TLM) is building the sustainable future of the lumber industry with next-generation sawmill technology. Backed by leading investors, including Cantos, Slow Ventures, Susa Ventures, Banter, Humba Ventures, and Ravelin Capital.

The Lumber Manufactory is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Saw Filer to join our sawmill maintenance team. The Saw Filer is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and sharpening saws and cutting tools to ensure optimal performance and safety in lumber production. This role plays a critical part in maximizing equipment efficiency and product quality.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect, maintain, and sharpen circular and band saws, including gang saw blades and chipper knives.
  • Set, align, shape, and swage saw blades to ensure precision cutting and minimize waste.
  • Perform regular maintenance on filing room equipment such as grinders, swages, and tensioners.
  • Monitor saw performance and make adjustments as needed to maintain cutting accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate records of saw usage, repairs, and replacements.
  • Collaborate with mill operators and maintenance teams to troubleshoot issues and improve cutting performance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies.
  • Maintain a clean and organized filing room.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a saw filer in a sawmill or similar industrial setting.
  • Strong understanding of saw geometry, tensioning, and sharpening techniques.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and specifications.
  • Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication, problem solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
