Job Summary

The Certified Licensed Practical Nurse - Bedside at North Mississippi Health Services provides direct bedside patient care and age‑specific care in an Acute Nursing or Elderly Care facility. They collaborate with the clinical team, manage patient admissions and discharges, perform treatments and procedures, and ensure compliance with NMHS policies.

Clinical Practice Job Functions
  • Exercise the highest degree of the nursing process to provide safe, quality patient care and document accordingly.
  • Perform duties of Charge Nurse in the absence of the RN, within scope of practice.
  • Work to ensure compliance with all NMHS policies and requirements as directed by the Nurse Manager and Educator.
  • Collaborate with clinical team members to admit assigned patients to unit at bedside.
  • Independently process the discharges for assigned patients at bedside.
  • Perform treatments, tests, and/or procedures including IV therapy as directed within scope of license.
  • Maintain written record of patient care events performed by the incumbent (e.g.: medications, treatments, procedures).
  • Keep patients and families informed regarding medications, diagnostic studies, treatments, and other information.
  • Provide patient/family education and act as a resource for existing staff and new employees.
  • Maintain knowledge of new medications and treatments to ensure patients/families have adequate knowledge for continuing care at home.
  • Maintain communication with multidisciplinary team members to provide holistic care to the patient.
  • Attend daily huddles on each unit to ensure proper assignments and identify team members for the shift.
  • Maintain competency by staying informed of changing trends in nursing practice.
  • Perform required continuing education hours online and in classroom.
  • Familiarize self with policies and procedures, patient education resources, and performance‑improvement unit initiatives.
Qualifications

Required experience:

LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - State Licensure

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Other experience in nursing (required)
Licenses and Certifications
  • LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse – State Licensure
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Comply with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
  • Maintain department requirements for continuing education and any specific unit requirements for age‑specific care.
  • Update certifications and licensures annually.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and teaching skills.
  • Prioritize, delegate, and evaluate work assignments.
  • Anticipate resources needed to provide the best quality of care for patients.
  • Assimilate data and reports for providers when necessary.
  • Implement protocols using critical‑thinking skills.
  • Stay in compliance with regulatory guidelines at all times.
  • Stay abreast of changes in medical‑management protocols.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Project a caring, friendly, and helpful image to patients and other customers.
  • Maintain routine contact with physicians, ancillary personnel, other nursing personnel, patients, families, and visitors.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills with all customers/co‑workers and in all aspects of patient care and job performance.
