Job Summary

The Registered Nurse at North Mississippi Health Services Systems is responsible for providing safe, quality patient care using the nursing process, maintaining effective communication with the multidisciplinary team, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The role requires leadership skills in prioritizing, delegating, and evaluating work assignments, as well as effective problem‑solving abilities to respond to changing patient needs.

Responsibilities
  • Use the nursing process to provide safe, quality patient care and document accordingly.
  • Ensure compliance with all NMHS policies and requirements as directed by the Nurse Manager and Educator.
  • Provide patient/family education and act as a resource for existing staff and new employees.
  • Participate in the preceptor class to ensure proper training of new employees.
  • Maintain communication with multidisciplinary team members to provide holistic care to the patient.
  • Attend daily huddles on each unit to ensure proper assignments and identify team members for the shift.
  • Project the caring, friendly and helpful image to patients and other customers.
  • Utilize the patient’s communication board (white board) to identify name, date, goals, other staff and procedures or tests for the day to keep the patients and families informed.
  • Comply with NMHS behavioral standards.
  • Maintain competency by staying informed of changing trends in nursing practice.
  • Attend annual review and unit‑specific requirements within the department.
  • Perform required continuing education hours online and in classroom.
  • Comply with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
  • Be licensed by the board of Nursing for the state.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in Registered Nursing (required).
  • Complete RN Orientation and approved unit‑specific checklist requirements (required).
  • RN – Registered Nurse – State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • NIH Stroke Scale certification.
  • Maintain department requirements for continuing education and any specific unit requirements to provide appropriate age‑specific care.
  • Effective communication and teaching skills.
  • General knowledge of various regulatory and accrediting standards.
  • Ability to prioritize, delegate and evaluate work assignments.
  • Ability to anticipate resources needed.
  • Equipped to assimilate data and report appropriately.
  • Oriented to new employees and report progress to charge nurse or nurse manager.
  • Typical contact with physicians, ancillary personnel, other nursing personnel, patients, families, visitors.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills to all customers/co‑workers, and in all aspects of patient care and job performance.
