Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Nurse Practitioner at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for delivering high-quality patient care in clinic and long-term care settings under the direction of a physician preceptor. This role involves assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients while providing education on health, disease processes, and wellness to patients and their families. The Nurse Practitioner must demonstrate strong clinical competence, effective communication skills, and the ability to work independently while adhering to established standards and regulations.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Patient Care
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients in the clinic and/or long‑term care setting according to the scope of practice outlined by the Board of Nursing, approved protocols, and national standards of practice as directed by the physician preceptor.
  • Provide patient and family education related to disease processes, health, and wellness.
  • Serve as a resource for community agencies as appropriate.
Documentation
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of patient status and patient care activities including treatments, procedures, and medications prescribed.
Continuing Education
  • Ensure clinical competence.
  • Stay abreast of changes in medical management.
  • Participate in a variety of health care education activities.
Qualifications
  • Education
    Master's Degree in Nursing (required). PhD Doctorate Degree (preferred).
  • Licenses and Certifications
    Required credentials as per state regulation.
  • Work Experience
    1‑3 years of clinical experience.

    Skills and Abilities


    Maintains working knowledge of current technology; required.
    Interaction with patient population of all ages from neonates to geriatrics; required.
    Responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients in clinic setting.
    Ability to work without close supervision.
    Ability to exercise independent judgment in a professional area.
    Must be able to organize multiple tasks and maintain control of workflow.
    Must have extensive contact with patients, physicians, clinic personnel, family members, and others.
    Must display a professional demeanor at all times.
    Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    Must reflect a positive, caring attitude toward clients, patients, staff, and the public we serve.
    Must maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
