Job Summary

The Resource Nurse at North Mississippi Health Services coordinates and provides direct patient care to ambulatory walk-in infusion patients for various therapy types. They ensure timely and quality documentation in the medical record, participate in clinical activities for patients receiving infusion therapy, and educate patients and staff. The Resource Nurse has the authority to make decisions related to nurse scheduling, clinical judgment, and selecting appropriate infusion devices.

Functions
  • Coordinate and provide direct patient care to ambulatory walk-in infusion patients for all therapy types: antibiotics, blood, chemo, injections, pump refills.
  • Ensure timely and quality documentation in the permanent medical record for clinical, legal, and reimbursement purposes.
  • Participate in clinical activities necessary for patients receiving infusion therapy on continuous pumps; for PICC/Midline services; nurse education and specialty drug education as needed.
  • Participate in patient/staff education and all other areas of total patient care to optimize outcomes, including review/monitoring of patient charts and reporting documentation.
  • Handle account charging and Safety Solutions/ADR; admit patients into computer systems according to policy procedures.
  • Maintain inventory and assist with billing.
  • Consult ancillary areas as needed.
Qualifications
  • Education: Associate's Degree;
    Bachelor's Degree
  • Licenses and Certifications: RN – Registered Nurse – State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure
  • Work Experience: 1‑3 years

    Skills and Abilities

    :
    • Broad knowledge and skills in a variety of patient diagnoses and ages as well as infusion therapies; good oral and written communication skills.
    • Competent in IV therapy, chemotherapy, pediatric injection, and pump operations.
    • Familiar with various methods of delivering infusion therapies; able to make recommendations to physicians and perform duties under protocol.
    • Daily interaction with patients, pharmacy staff, physicians, discharge planners, and family members.
