Job DescriptionJob Summary
The Nurse Practitioner at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients in clinic and acute care settings while adhering to established standards and protocols. This position is responsible for providing patient education, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring clinical competence through continuing education. The Nurse Practitioner must demonstrate leadership skills to work independently, exercise professional judgment, and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, patients, and families while ensuring high-quality and cost-efficient patient care.
JobFunctions
- Patient Care: Assesses, diagnoses, and treats patients in the hospital setting according to the scope of practice outlined by the Board of Nursing, approved protocols, and national standards of practice as directed by the physician preceptor.
- Patient
Education:
Provides patients and/or family members with education related to the disease process, health, and wellness; serves as a resource for community agencies as appropriate. - Documentation: Ensures timely and accurate documentation of patient status and patient care activities including treatments, procedures, and medications prescribed.
- Continuing
Education:
Ensures clinical competence; stays abreast of changes in medical management; participates in a variety of health care education activities. - Regulation: Adheres to NMHS/NMMC Policies/Procedures/Guidelines; complies with applicable Local/State/Federal policies/procedures/guidelines/laws/statutes.
- Education:
- Master s Degree in Nursing – required
- PhD in Nursing – preferred
- Licenses and
Certifications:- RN – State Licensure and/or Compact – required upon hire
- Work Experience:
- 1–3 years clinical experience as an RN – preferred
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Maintains working knowledge of skills and current technology
- Interaction with a patient population of all ages ranging from neonates to geriatrics
- Ability to work without close supervision
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in a professional area
- Must be able to organize multiple tasks
- Must maintain control of work flow
- Staying abreast of health care system changes
- Current knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations affecting scope of practice
- Providing quality care in the most cost efficient manner
- Patient care activities within scope of practice and as directed by physician preceptor
- Accurate diagnosis and treatment of patient conditions
