Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARY The Registered Nurse at North Mississippi Health Services Systems is responsible for providing safe, quality patient care using the nursing process, maintaining effective communication with the multidisciplinary team, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The role requires leadership skills in prioritizing, delegating, and evaluating work assignments, as well as effective problem‑solving abilities to respond to changing patient needs.
Responsibilities- Use the nursing process to provide safe, quality patient care and document accordingly.
- Ensure compliance with all NMHS policies and requirements as directed by the Nurse Manager and Educator.
- Provide patient and family education and act as a resource for existing staff and new employees.
- Participate in the Preceptor class to ensure proper training of new employees.
- Maintain communication with multidisciplinary team members to provide holistic care to the patient.
- Attend daily huddles on each unit to ensure proper assignments and identify team members for the shift.
- Project a caring, friendly and helpful image to patients and other customers.
- Utilize the patient’s communication board (white board) to keep the patient and family informed about name, date, goals, other staff and procedures or tests for the day.
- Comply with the NMHS behavioral standards.
- Maintain competency by staying informed of changing trends in nursing practice.
- Attend annual review and unit specifications within the department.
- Perform required continuing education hours online and in classroom.
- Comply with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
- Maintain state licensure or compact state licensure as a Registered Nurse.
- Associate’s Degree Registered Nurse – required.
- Complete RN Orientation and approved unit‑specific checklist requirements – required.
- Registered Nurse – State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification.
Required experience in outpatient infusion home care settings is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Maintain department requirements for continuing education and any specific unit requirements to provide appropriate age‑specific care.
- Demonstrate effective communication and teaching skills.
- Have general knowledge of various regulatory and accrediting standards.
- Prioritize, delegate, and evaluate work assignments.
- Anticipate resources needed.
- Assimilate data and reports appropriately.
- Orient new employees to the unit and report progress to the charge nurse or nurse manager.
- Have routine contact with physicians, ancillary personnel, other nursing personnel, patients, family, visitors.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills to all customers and co‑workers, and in all aspects of patient care and job performance.
